August 2016: FELIXSEEARTS
Location: Bronx, NY
August is here and so is our fresh NEW feature. This month Zinzabell & The Creative$ bring you artist Felix Caballero! This is my family right here! Born and raised in the Bronx, art has always been a part of Felix's life. In the early 90's (his era) graffiti was everywhere. The bright colors, and spontaneous abstract forms covered walls all throughout Felix's neighborhood. It wasn't long before he began taggin' walls himself. From walls to canvases Felix's art has developed its own style. With a paint brush in his hands the world is his canvas! Peep below for our interview and get in the mind of an artistic genius! And don't forget to follow this guy on Tumblr/IG! Everything on there straight fire!!
1. What inspires you to create?
I am inspired by almost anything, my surroundings, things I see, things I hear, people inspire me. Recently I've really been inspired by poetry and the power of words. Most of my recent paintings start off with a title, that then turns into an idea and than a finished painting. Take the title "colors to a blind man" for example. What do you imagine this will look like? This image that I see when I close my eyes becomes the artwork.
2. How do you get into your mode to create?
I listen to a lot of music. All different genres but definitely hip-hop, the wordplay is a lot like poetry.
3. Who is your favorite artist and why?
I'm a huge fan of J.C. Leyendecker's work, Frank Frazzetta's work and especially the Renaissance artist but I have to say one of my favorite artists is William Bouguereau. When I create a piece I asked my self "as an art collector, would I wanna buy this painting and would I mind waking up to see this image every day" , I'd love to wake up to any of William bouguereau Angel paintings any day. Simply Beautiful.
4. What are you working on right now?
Right now I'm working on my self. I'm trying to do less commission work and focus on my own view. I'm working on a couple different paintings at the moment preparing for my very own show.
5. Talk to us about the first time you was asked to showcase/buy your work?
The first time I ever won anything for my art was my freshman year in high school. It was a gold medal that I received for being the best in my school (artist), a lot of other kids from other schools received it too, so It didn't really seem special at the time but in hindsight it was pretty dope to have my talents acknowledged at that age.
6. Where can the people go to view/purchase your work?
All my current work can be view through my Instagram page @Felixseearts for any purchases or inquiries please feel free to email me at flxcaballero41@gmail.com
7. What's one thing you want the world to remember about your work?
The thing I want people to remember about my work is the emotions, thoughts or feelings they felt when first encountering a work of mine. Good, bad or sad. As long as you walked away with something. Remember it.
